What if I told you that you weren’t hardwired for success?

That you were born with the odds already against you.

Let me elaborate. Your primitive 500-year-old brain isn’t hardwired for success. Even though we’ve evolved as humans, a lot of our behavior is still dictated by ourprehistoric brain.

You might know this brain as the reptilian brain or "lizard brain". And there’s only one thing this prehistoric brain is concerned with. Survival.

So when it comes to thinking about survival, a lot of it is black and white. Unfortunately, if you look at society as a whole, the majority hasn’t evolved past that line of thinking.

For example, we like to compare everything to the “average”.

The average person sleeps this many hours a day...

The average person went to school this many years…

The average person makes this salary a year…

It’s almost like they’re saying, those are your baseline numbers to be a functioning human being.

On top of that, society likes to give recognition to the “strongest” and the “smartest”. Because somehow those people are “destined” for success.

So what if you’re not the strongest? The smartest?

Are your chances at success automatically zero?

If you actually examine successful people and what it takes to be successful…

You’ll discover that line of thinking is grossly WRONG.

The average self-made millionaire has an IQ of 125.

That is slightly above average.

I’m a member of MENSA, an organization for people who scored in the 98th percentile for a standardized IQ test. Not all of the MENSA members are millionaires.

In fact, Warren Buffet says that if you have an IQ of 130 or more - you can “sell” some of it. Meaning, you don’t need to be that smart to be successful in business.

So in order for you to be successful, you need to rewire your brain. You need to fight against the lizard brain.

And the first step is to NEVER look at “averages”. Successful people aren’t average.

Instead, you need to study successful people. Success leaves clues.

And these clues aren’t noticed or followed by the average.

I can dive into more detail about this another time. Because there’s ONE THING I want you to take away from this email if you plan on being successful…

You must be adaptable.

This means you can’t take everything in front of you as black and white. Don’t fall victim to certainty bias.

Instead, you have to read what’s in front of you and discover the truth. Let me give you a simple example.

If you feel like your business partner hasn’t been pulling his or her weight, don’t automatically resort to finding a new business partner.

Try to find a solution where it’ll work for both of you. And by doing that, your business relationship has an exponential chance of surviving.

You see, people think being adaptable is switching over to things frequently. No, actually being over-adaptable is harmful to success.

What you have to do is find an“evolutionary stable strategy”. Meaning, you have to develop a strategy where you have to give in order to receive.

It’s like cutting a deal. You trade something to get something in return.

But what I want you to realize is that you have to develop a strategy with yourself. Cut deals with yourself.

Remember in my last email I said you’re only in competition with yourself.

So you have to figure out what you need to give up in order to progress toward your success.

That can be as simple as quitting going out on weekends and replacing that with reading.

In business, if you see your service or product is not selling well…

The answer is not to sell harder. It’s to switch your angle or come up with a new offer.

Look at Blockbuster, they laughed at Netflix. Even when they saw their sales plummeting, they still stuck to their business model.

Now there’s ZERO Blockbuster stores remaining in the world.

Remember, you need to start thinking differently. You’re born with the odds already stacked against you.

But know that it’s possible for you to rewire your brain for success. Your IQ has nothing to do with it.

Start cutting deals with yourself to reach your end goal.

That can be sacrificing time with your friends so you can find mentors to learn from.

You want to be average, study the average.

You want to be successful, study the successful. And follow the path.
